After the summer break, EDMO BELUX Lunch Lecture re-launches on 4 September at 12:00-13:00 CEST, with Guillaume Kuster as our guest speaker.

Guillaume is CEO and co-founder of Check First and was a journalist for nearly 20 years. He took part in the design and implementation of the CrossOver pilot project, monitoring the spread of disinformation and FIMI through algorithmic recommender systems on big online platforms. He also acts as an investigator and data analyst. With Check First, Guillaume co-leads an effort to develop software and methodologies to help undestanding and countering disinformation. Since its inception in 2016, Check First was part of numerous international projects together with high level partners. After a career for Radio France and France Télévisions, as well as an independent trainer and media consultant, Guillaume puts its expertise in storytelling and knowledge of the media landscape at the service of the fight against disinformation.

In his Lunch Lecture presentation, Guillaume will present Check First’s latest investigation on a large-scale scam operation recruiting its victims on Facebook through ads.

The EDMO BELUX Lunch Lectures are a series of informal gatherings on research topics such as disinformation, hate speech, polarisation, and digitalisation. During each Lunch Lecture, a guest speaker presents their work in a 30-minute talk, after which we open the floor for discussion. Lunch Lectures take place online and can be joined by everyone who is interested and who has registered beforehand.
