When Paul leaves on a school trip, he discovers it is not a school trip at all: he will be locked up along with all the other ugly children. Paul lives in the country where President Isimo, a dictator, is in power.

When protagonist Paul goes on a school trip, he discovers that it is not a school trip at all: he will be locked up along with hundreds of other children because they are all ugly. This is because President Isimo does not want to see any more ugly people in his country. Paul escapes and founds ‘The Club of Ugly Children’, together with the prettiest girl in his class, Sara. They take on the president and try to free the other children
