#21 How can you tell if a piece of information is true?

More and more news outlets are launching their own fact-checking sections. These sections shed light on the status of a piece of information (true, false, a rumour, inaccurate, misleading or humorous) circulating, for example, on social media. Fact-checking is often associated with debunking. It is known as the golden ticket to find out what is true or false online; this fact sheet invites you to explore these sections to identify, understand and work on fake news.

The Désinfo Educ fact sheets are a collection of educational resources written in French. The examples and case studies are mainly based on situations relevant to French-speaking students and their cultural context but can be adapted in other languages and for other cultural background.
