Date: 22 May 2023
Time: 19:00 – 22:00
Location: Brussels Town Hall

The VUB thinktank POINcaré proudly presents its new book “A question of truth” (available in Dutch and English).

The quest for truth is as old as humankind itself. Deliberating on what is true and untrue is a uniquely human activity. However, it is precisely for that reason that truth is not an evident or static fact. It is brought about through human questioning and, as such, is the object of endless reflection and debate.

More than 50 VUB voices have each in their own manner and from their own discipline reflected on the theme of ‘truth’. The contributions in this book form a mosaic of voice on time-honoured and fundamental questions: What is truth? Who determines what is true and on what grounds? As experts, what role can and should scientists play in all this? Are we now in a post-truth era, and have we abandoned facts as the basis for truth claims? Does the digital revolution play a crucial role in our dealings with everything we consider to be true?

A question of Truth is the work of the VUB thinktank POINcaré and was edited by Joke Bauwens, Vincent Ginis, Trisha Meyer, Bart Van Kerkhove and Karl Verstrynge.

The book will be presented in a VUB evening event organised as part of PACT, the Caroline Pauwels Academy of Critical Thinking.
