The Internet is a treasure trove of information. But how do you know which information is reliable and which is not? How do you recognize inaccurate and misleading news stories? This checklist from the News in the Classroom project with 10 questions will help you analyze news stories and distinguish fact from fiction.

When reading a news item, it is important to think critically about it. For example, check whether the author is clearly mentioned, what sources are used and pay attention to the use of (sensational) language. Using the 10 questions on the poster, you will get a clearer picture of how reliable a particular news item is.
